Beautiful Beast

This project was inspired by the visual storytelling and creature design of Beauty and the Beast. I explored animalistic transformation through prosthetic makeup, sculptural techniques and facial restructuring. My goal was to create a hybrid creature that balanced human emotion with more primal and intimidating physical characteristics.

Design Approach

I began the design process by studying animal anatomy and identifying features that could be translated into prosthetic makeup design. I explored ideas around aggression, dominance and instinct, using predatory animals as inspiration for the facial structure. Elements such as the flattened nose, darkened eyes and exaggerated contours were designed to push the character towards a more beast like appearance whilst still retaining recognisable human qualities.

Application Approach

I created the final look using prosthetic casting techniques, latex application and layered texture work to reshape the actor’s natural features. Vein detailing, tonal shading and structural contouring were used to build realism and depth across the face. Throughout the application, I focused on maintaining enough flexibility and expression for the character to still feel alive and performative on stage.
